Hillier med

Janet Hillier, wife of (late) Robert Hillier, looks on as the Volunteer Centre’s new name is unveiled.

A large crowd gathered at the Glacier arena on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 to celebrate the life and accomplishments of (late) Robert (Bob) Hillier.

Bob Hillier played an important role in sport and volunteer development  in Mount Pearl. He was the only Newfoundlander to serve as President of the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD) and received honour awards from the Atlantic Physical Education and Recreation Society. Bob was inducted into the NL Sports Hall of Fame, the Mount Pearl Sports Hall of Fame, and the Mount Pearl Soccer Hall of Fame.

Bob played a key leadership role in many sports organizations in Mount Pearl, and was a driving force in bringing local youth sport organizations together to form the Mount Pearl Sport Alliance, which would pave the way for many new initiatives, including the Mount Pearl Sports Hall of Fame, Athletic Awards Program and Volunteer Mount Pearl.

The Robert (Bob) Hillier Volunteer Centre was named in memory of Robert Hillier by the City of Mount Pearl on October 27, 2015.
