In these free classes, we will explore giving yourself ‘permission’ to choose  topics (fiction or non-fiction) that you enjoy and letting go of all the  ‘shoulds’ of writing that you have heard over the years. You will develop brainstorming and outlining skills and learn all about making an ‘easy’ first draft.

April 20, 2017   Finding The Fun

Having fun with writing – keeping your creativity in shape, writing practice, finding the best way bring yourself to the page, trying new ideas, and building your skills.

May 4   Whose Story Is This?

Owning the story – brainstorming, making connections, outlining, story structures that work, and developing our storyline (fiction or non-fiction).

May 18   What Do You Want Them To See? 

Vivid description – taking apart popular pieces of writing advice like  ‘write what you know’  and ‘show don’t tell ‘and applying it to our understanding and descriptions of characters, events and locations.

Note:  These classes are suitable for writers of  fiction and/or non-fiction, the details of the class discussions  and exercises will be shaped by the interests of the writers in each class.

Students will not be required to share any writing they do in the class but they will be expected to participate in writing exercises and give gentle feedback to anyone who requests it.

Everyone is welcome, no writing experience necessary. Writers with experience will be able to ‘layer’this information into their previous work. 

Classes can be taken individually or sequentially.
