On Friday, January 29 the Mount Pearl Sport Alliance (in partnership with the City of Mount Pearl) hosts the ‘20th Mount Pearl Sports Hall of Fame & Annual Athletic Awards Ceremony’, honouring sports heroes of yesterday and today’s stars. The ceremony takes place at the Reid Community Centre, beginning at 6:30pm.
Four new members will be inducted to the Sports Hall of Fame this year – Athletes, Jennifer Andrews (soccer) and Winston Taylor (hockey); Builders, Dave LeGrow (soccer) and Dave Randell (youth sports).
The evening also features the Annual Athletic Awards, including senior level Female and Male Athlete and Team, as well as Coach and Executive of the Year, named in memory of Sport Alliance pioneer, Peter Halliday. Finalists for all categories will be announced by January 25.
Sports Hall of Fame Committee Chair, Harold Stapleton and Athletic Awards Committee Chair, Wayne Andrews both expressed their enthusiasm for this joint event saying, “We look forward to bringing our entire sport community together again this year to celebrate the contributions and successes that continue to make Mount Pearl a great sport community. It’s an evening of pride and inspiration.”
Molson Coors continues as major sponsor for the event. Other sponsors helping make the evening possible include Browning Harvey, VOCM, Eastern Audio, and Newfoundland Power.
Sport Alliance Chair, Jerry Rice said, “we are very proud to be associated with such dedicated athletes and volunteers, and honoured to offer this recognition.”
